Cable Co-op: Powered by Community for Over 40 Years

For four decades, Cable Co-op has stood as a proud testament to what a community can build when it takes its future into its own hands. Founded in 1986 by local Oberlin residents seeking better connection, Cable Co-op is not a corporate telecom giant—we are a non-profit, member-owned utility dedicated entirely to serving our members. Every dollar reinvested stays right here at home, strengthening local infrastructure and delivering reliable, high-speed fiber broadband and television services to our neighbors and businesses.

But our mission goes far beyond providing internet and cable TV. True to our cooperative values, Cable Co-op is deeply woven into the fabric of Oberlin’s civic, educational, and environmental life. We actively give back to the town that built us through impactful community programs, including:

  • Digital Equity & Student Success: Bridging the digital divide through our Helping Households initiative—providing affordable broadband access to local families in need—and our Helping with Homework program, which ensures local students have the reliable, high-speed internet required to complete their studies and excel academically.
  • Environmental Leadership: Hosting our annual E-Waste Collection Drive, which has successfully removed over 17 tons of electronic waste from the local environment and kept harmful materials out of landfills.
  • Community Support & Hunger Relief: Partnering with local drives like Stuff the Bus to ensure students have necessary school supplies and delivering over a ton of food annually to local food pantries to support area families.
  • Investing in Our Youth: Awarding our annual High School Senior Award to celebrate and empower the next generation of Oberlin leaders, alongside sponsoring local community events, youth sports, and civic organizations year-round.

For 40 years, Cable Co-op has proven that local ownership means local devotion. We are honored to be your cable company, and we remain committed to keeping Oberlin connected, supported, and thriving for the next 40 years and beyond.
